The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) is the trade association and representative voice of Britain's civil nuclear industry. It represents more than 270 companies and some 59,000 UK nuclear workers. The NIA supports the commercial interests of its member as part of a diverse energy mix for the UK including renewables, clean coal and gas, with nuclear at the heart of a low-carbon future.

'Nuclear Power Delivery UK' officially launched

‘Nuclear Power Delivery UK’ - a team consisting of Westinghouse, Shaw Group, Laing O’Rourke and Toshiba has been officially unveiled. The launch of the new team and their identity was timed to coincide with a supplier event, held at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on 22nd June, where the UK team presented the range of opportunities that will be available to suppliers when the AP1000 nuclear power plant is built in the UK.

Dr Rita Bowser, MD of Nuclear Power Delivery UK said, “As a team we have an unrivalled experience in delivering large scale nuclear and construction projects around the world which coupled with our established relationships in the UK makes us a very strong contender in this growing market. “We are continuing to actively work with our potential customer Horizon Nuclear Power so that we can prepare a bid which we hope will result in the AP1000 operating in the UK by 2020.”

A decision on technology is expected from Horizon Nuclear Power around the end of 2010.
